Chemical probes for proteomics
Proteomics is a research field in the interface of biology, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics and chemistry. Our chair is therefore a unique cocktail of researchers from different scientific backgrounds working together on cancer related projects.
The organic chemists task is to design and synthesize chemical probes that will allow the enrichment of a selected sub-proteome from a complex cell or tissue lysate. This sub-proteome is then analyzed by LC-MS/MS.
The probes are analogues of known small molecule inhibitors which need to be attachable to agarose beads. The routes and methods used are those of medicinal chemistry / drug discovery.
